Udaygiri fort was the citadel of the erstwhile rulers of Travancore
The fort is now outside the Kerala State borders, in Kanyakumari Dt. of the state of Tamil Nadu.
It is very close to the Padmanabhapuram palace but few visit this historical site.
The fort houses, among others, the tomb of De Lannoy, the commander of the Dutch East India company. His fleet was defeated by the Travancore army of Marthanda Verma. De Lannoy later joined Marthand Verma and brought about several improvements in the Travancore army. DeLannoy died in 1777 and was entombed at Udayagiri.
